key phrase later in the SMS?

Postby ProfShadow » Sat Sep 06, 2014 1:20 am

Been working on having a forwarded SMS come into my phone (From Google Voice) and then want the btinterface to pass along the contents after the password.

Google Voice sends:
(SMS from NNN-NNN-NNNN) btiYada

and I want it to see the Yada after the bti password.

I know it says "first chars" of the incoming SMS, but it would be useful, at least for me, to have it scan and pass along, no matter where the password shows up.

Just sayin' BTInterface rocks!

I'll have a think about it when I start up working on BTI again.

HI Ian,

Actually, I've been thinking on it and am trying to determine where BTInterface starts grabbing the data from the SMS.

Where does BTInterface actually start to parse the SMS?

Thanks for all the hard work...and of course, for the program in the first place!

I'm thinking of writing a variant with Basic4Android, inspired by your App. I have to admit I love Basic4Android!

BTinterface takes a look at every incoming SMS.

If the first characters match the BTinterface SMS password then BTinterface steals that SMS and doesn't let it go further to the phone's message app.

BTinterface will then further process all the text in the SMS message that came after the password.

Your suggested alternate working would require quite a significant rethink and rewrite.

You might try changing BTinterface's SMS password to
(SMS
and see if that works for you.

If I understand correctly then Google voice is forwarding an SMS from your phone to the phone linked with BTinterface and Google voice is adding this pre text.

Perhaps there is a way to turn off the pre text as after all an SMS is max 160 characters and this pretext could corrupt the message.

Hi Ian,

I tried the (SMS and just even ( , but BTI didn't seem to grab it from a message forwarded from Google Voice. I think because there might be something "in front" of the ( but I can't tell until I write a little SMS capture program myself. I've done that in the Android Eclipse environment, but that code's stuck on a CD backup someplace ;) I'll dig it out or just use Basic4Android and build one.

I appreciate the ideas and will keep you in the loop as I work on it.

Thanks!
