Installing new versions of Arduino IDE

Postby Ian » Sun Jul 07, 2013 11:38 am

For me I have a folder on my C drive called Arduino.

Each time a new version of the IDE comes out I download the Zip file (not the installer) to this folder and unzip it with it's given folder name, as of today the latest version is 1.0.5 and I see that's newer than mine so I download it and unzip it in my C:\Arduino folder, now I have several folders:

arduino-1.0.1
arduino-1.0.3
arduino-1.0.5-windows

Within that last folder is another folder called arduino-1.0.5 so I cut that ( Ctrl X ) then back up a folder and paste it then get rid of the empty arduino-1.0.5-windows folder.

Now I have these folders:

arduino-1.0.1
arduino-1.0.3
arduino-1.0.5

Then I go into the arduino-1.0.5 folder and run arduino.exe and voila, I have the new IDE version running but guess what?

When I go to File > Sketchbook

I still have all my sketches!

I also like to right-click on the arduino.exe program and choose to 'Pin to Start Menu' so I can start it from there too.
